Ola Kopacz, Ph.D.

Dr. Kopacz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Arizona. Her research interests focus on the potential of new media (especially social networks) to spread ideas and empower people in contexts like education, news, and entertainment. She teaches courses in communication research and mass media.

Her current projects include a study of YouTube portrayals of Native Americans and the use of social media for building meaningful communities.
Dr. Kopacz's articles have appeared in the Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, New Media & Society, Electronic Journal of Communication, Human Communication Research, and Communication Teacher. She has taught courses in media effects, communication research, communication theory, and public speaking.
